The Peace Worth Keeping
Join me, Tammy Roche, for another episode of Social Worker in Private Practice.
Not just for social workers anymore—this podcast dives into the work, the life, and the deeper questions in between.
In episode 81, I explore the different ways we try to “keep the peace,” from the chronic accommodator and the avoider, to the fixer, the chameleon, the overfunctioner, and the self-silencer. For years, I wore more than one of those hats, believing it was my job to smooth things over.
I’ve learned that sometimes you have to embrace discomfort in the moment to protect your well-being in the long term. Avoiding it might keep everyone else comfortable for a moment, but it can quietly drain you over time.
I’m sharing what it’s looked like to choose real peace over false harmony, and how stepping into the hard moments has brought more calm into my life—not less.
P.S. – This October, I’ll be participating in the 2025 Shitbox Rally—a movement-based fundraiser raising money for Cancer Council. It’s a cause that’s deeply meaningful to me, and I’d love for you to check it out. You can learn more and support my journey at tammyroche.com/giving-2025-1.
